Cachets - Scott Joplin

Scott Joplin moved to Sedalia, Missouri in 1864 as a teen-ager, and lived in Sedalia for more than a decade. Known as the "King of Ragtime", Mr. Joplin was honored by the USPS with a stamp in 1983. The "first day issue" was in Sedalia 9 June 1983 in conjunction with the Sedalia Ragtime Festival. Scott designated this stamp as number 2044.

The Kingdom Philatelic Association devised a cachet for the first day issue cover, as well as cachets for the second and third day of the Sedalia Ragtime Festival. Members of the club traveled to Sedalia where these covers were offered for sale during the Festival.
