Pontiac tripower specifications
I have been reluctant to publish much of the information contained herein as the information can be misunderstood, but feel it is now time to publish the information.
Carburetor casting numbers - It is IMPOSSIBLE to positively identify a Rochester carburetor from the casting numbers alone (this fact can easily be proved by the reader in examining the data presented, as many different carburetors will have the same casting numbers). The casting numbers refer to a blank casting prior to machining. Castings can be machined a number of different ways, creating completely different parts (but still having the same casting number). However, one can identify what a carburetor is not by looking at the casting numbers. As reproduction tags have been on the market for a number of years, many tripower carburetors are mistagged (either in error, or a deliberate attempt to deceive). If the casting numbers of the carburetor does not match the information contained herein for the given tag number; then the carburetor is mistagged.
Manifold casting numbers Several of the different years of Pontiac tripower manifolds came from the factory with no casting number. Others have had the casting number removed by individuals either wishing to dress up the engine, or in an attempt to deceive. Generally, a casting date is located on the underside of the manifold, so manifolds can still be identified. Also, many attempt to sell the Oldmobile J-2 intake as a Pontiac. The casting number for the J-2 is 571145. Even with the number removed, it should be quite obvious that this is NOT a Pontiac manifold; as the water neck bolt to the top of the intake at about a 20 degree angle. All Pontiac tripower water necks bolt to the front on the manifold, never to the top.
Vacuum motors The last three digits of the part number are stamped in the arm of the vacuum motor.

There was also a set of 3 OTC (over the counter) carbs sold for racing. These are 7012351 (front), 7012352 (center), and 7012353 (rear). These differed from the production carburetors in that they were set up for mechanical linkage (also OTC), and had richer jetting.

This unit sold OTC with a mechanical linkage kit, a jetting kit, and aluminum fuel lines. It is unknown to the author why Pontiac issued a separate casting for the Super Duty program, as side-by-side inspection of the two manifolds reveals no noticable differences.
