Subscription Card Sets

I have searched the “net” in vain for documentation on many of these sets. Am therefore offering what general information we have. Additional information will be made available as we receive it, or as we continue to document various card sets. We have hundreds of thousands of these cards which will be available as we finish documenting sets. At present, we have for sale decks of My Green Gardens; and checklists (done by us) of AUTO Rally, and three of the four MY Great Recipes.

The “subscription” card set gets its name from the method sold. The customer would enter into a subscription with the selling company. The selling company would then send a group of cards (normally referred to as a “deck” or “packet”) via mail to the customer at regular intervals. The customer would then remit payment for the cards; thereby extending the subscription. Some of the sets were printed in several languages.

The selling company would normally make available various organizational media (box, index cards, etc.), either as a cost item, or “free” after the customer had purchased a number of decks, or with the “introduction” packet.

Checklists seem to be one item not supplied by the selling companies. Checklists have been produced by hobbyists for some of the sets; the most notable being the “Sportscaster” set which is well-documented in some of the hobby publications. We have produced checklists for many of the other sets which we offer for sale. This information will be listed with the specific set.

In the “Cards” description below, “dd” or “ddd” means deck number; “cc” or “ccc” means card number.

We have roughly 75,000 of these cards for sale. WE NO LONGER ARE SELLING INDIVIDUAL CARDS OR DECKS. WE WILL WHOLESALE OUR COMPLETE INVENTORIES OF THESE CARDS. THE MINIMUM SALE WILL BE ALL OF THE CARDS WE HAVE OF ONE SET! PLEASE CALL FOR QUANTITIES AND PRICING.

We do not have the introductory packet. Cards are dated 1984 and 1985, and marked with the packet number and card number. Type A cards have a white back with black lettering. The identification line on the lower front reads “ “MCMLXXXIII MY GREAT RECIPES. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. PRINTED IN W. GERMANY”. Also, same line but “PRINTED IN HOLLAND”. Cards were printed in both places. The identification line on the bottom back reads “UR ddd” on the left where ddd is the deck or packet number;  “MY GREAT RECIPES” in the center; and the card number is in the lower right. Card numbers started with B1 and continued for 72 numbers (3 packets) and then skipped to the next letter of the alphabet.

Beginning with deck 7 (the third mailing) the title on the reverse is in red lettering. This set was packaged with a second group (possibly deck 1, although not so marked) of oversize cards titled “My Great Hints & Tips”. There is an index card plus 54 data cards. What is currently believed to be a complete set consists of 3385 cards (141 decks of 24 plus an error card – 120SX25 which is printed twice). The letter prior to the card number is apparently a “mailing” code, as three decks or packets, consisting of 72 cards were mailed together. The packet set is an extension of the UR set.
